Welcome to the
OpenHelix introductory tutorial on the Galaxy genomics analysis resource.
Galaxy is not a database, but rather an analysis resource and tool.
Galaxy is a genomics
analysis platform that allows researchers to obtain data from various
databases such as the UCSC Genome Browser, ENCODE data and many other
sources, prepare and manipulate the data, and perform various analyses on the
data in ways that might not be possible at the original sites. Galaxy also
includes a workflow tool that allows the user to save and share various
customized and useful analysis steps.
Galaxy is
undergoing rapid growth and change at this time. Our goal in this tutorial is
to help the new user understand what the Galaxy tool has to offer, and the
basics of using the site. As Galaxy develops, so will our tutorial on
it, so please check for updated versions regularly.
