Appendix A. Web Browser Recommendations

SeqWeb Version 2 supports the following platforms with the following web browsers:

Windows: Netscape Versions 4.77, 4.78, 4.79, 6.2 or Internet Explorer Versions 5.5, 6.0
Macintosh: Netscape Versions 4.77, 4.78, 4.79, 6.2 or Internet Explorer Versions 5.0, 5.1
UNIX: Netscape Versions 4.77, 4.78, 4.79, 6.2

In addition, we have observed the following pros and cons associated with each type of web browser.

Task	Netscape	Internet Explorer
Loading pages		Loads pages faster.
Printing pages	Sometimes runs out of memory.	Prints faster and more reliably.
Refreshing window contents	Must sometimes "Reload" the page to see the effect of a previous action, such as adding a sequence. Reloading may return you to the main SeqWeb page rather than the page in which you were working.	Must sometimes "Reload" the page to see the effect of a previous action, such as adding a sequence.
Resizing the browser window	Must sometimes "Reload" the page after resizing (due to a JavaScript bug). Reloading may return you to the main SeqWeb page rather than the page in which you were working.	Resizes pages more gracefully.
Saving files	Supports saving multiple files at one time.	Saves only one file at a time.
Status line display	Provides a larger status line, good for displaying more of the sequence or results description.
